Our Story
Just a Dog Dad.

It started with a vet bill I wasn't ready for.

My dog got sick — nothing catastrophic, just one of those things that happens — and I sat in the waiting room doing the math in my head, wondering if I'd made a mistake by not getting pet insurance when he was a puppy. I had thought about it. I just never did the research.

That bill got paid. But it stuck with me.

So I started digging — reading policy documents, comparing deductibles, figuring out what "reimbursement rate" actually means in practice and which companies actually pay claims without making you fight for it. It took way longer than it should have, because the information out there is either written by the insurance companies themselves or buried in fine print designed to confuse you.

Pawsitive is what I wish had existed when I needed it. A straight, independent take on pet insurance — written by someone who owns a pet and gives a damn, not by a marketing team trying to hit a conversion target.

I'm doing the research so you don't have to. So when your dog has a bad day — and eventually they all do — you're ready.

Common Questions

STRAIGHT
ANSWERS

It depends on your pet and finances. If your pet faces a major illness or injury, insurance can save thousands. Most valuable for breeds prone to hereditary conditions, young pets (cheaper premiums), and anyone who couldn't absorb a $5,000+ vet bill.
As early as possible — ideally when your pet is young and healthy. Most insurers won't cover pre-existing conditions and premiums rise with age. Waiting until your pet is sick means the conditions you need coverage for most won't be covered.
Pre-existing conditions, routine wellness and preventive care (unless you add a wellness rider), elective procedures, grooming, and in many cases dental cleanings. Always read the exclusions — that's where the surprises live.
Annual deductibles reset every policy year — you pay once then insurance kicks in for the rest of the year. Per-incident deductibles apply to each new condition. For pets with multiple conditions, annual tends to be better value.
